Introducing the VBS Girl Scout patch program.

GSA BagdeDeveloping future blood donors and providing service to your community.

For Daisy Girl Scouts (ages 5-6), Brownie Girl Scouts (ages 6-8), Junior Girl Scouts (ages 8-11), and STUDIO 2B SM for girls ages 11-17.

Blood is urgently needed and there is still NO SUBSTITUTE for it. Patients with cancer, heart disease and injuries from accidents need it every day. Last year, central Virginia patients required the blood from more than 100,000 blood donations.

A dedicated blood drive coordinator is someone who wants to use their organizational skills for a vitally important project - one that will make our community a healthier, safer place to live - one where there is blood available for every emergency.

As a blood drive coordinator, you will:

  • Talk to potential donors one on one. The number one reason people don’t give blood is because they haven’t been asked.
  • Be enthusiastic! It’s contagious!
  • Assist in choosing your own blood donor recruitment committee.
  • Make reservations for the rooms in which the blood drives will be held.
  • Distribute posters and flyers to your recruiters to advertise the blood drive.
  • Work directly with your account manager from Virginia Blood Services to learn how to do your important assignment.
  • Visit each blood drive as it begins to make sure things are running smoothly.
  • Earn extra experience and skills and your blood drive patch!

The success or failure of each blood drive rests in the hands of the coordinator! It is by far the most important position at a drive, other than that of the donor. If you’d like to be involved in this lifesaving effort, please contact:

YOU can organize a blood drive with your Girl Scout troop!

Everything you need can be found in your Blood Drive in a Box (now available in your resource library or online).
